No it wasn't. I knew they wouldn't mess with this formula unless they HAD to.

Forgive me for asking this, but are Solid Axles better? I've never been offroading before, if that helps.

How to write an article that will get a bazillion clicks on an automotive website (choose one of the below topics):
1) The next Wrangler will have solid axles! Rejoice! Or not!
2) The next Wrangler will have IFS and / or IRS! Progress! Or not!

See also: reasons I may have to cut a bitch if the Defender's successor doesn't. Though I should point out, there is a non-solid axle Jeep tradition vehicle often forgotten...
I'm guessing most people prefer death wobble to Surprise Corvair Incidents.

Solid axles have many pros and cons but at this point the biggest pro is that there is a HUGE aftermarket for the Wrangler and if the foundation is more or less the same they wont piss of many many 3rd party suppliers.
The answer you will most commonly here is that they are better for articulation (keeping wheels on the ground over undulations) versus independent but there are many advances in independent that (when comparing stock to stock) puts them on an even playing field. Generally speaking the pros are:
Cheaper articulation
Easier modification
axle shafts and steering joints less susceptible to failure.
Cons are
More unsprung weight for a worse ride
heavier
Dat flex

Yeah, I sure as hell wasn't going to do more or less than just linking to the source on this one.

SCI is my new acronym for unintended oversteer.

They are usually stronger, more reliable/durable, and offer more flex.

Most usually with tripping/tuck-under. Not to be confused with Porsche Congenital Wheel Dysplasia - the tendency of a car bred with a heavy butt to approach trees that end first.

To add to hammerheads post, solid axles are a much simpler design, so there's much less to break and it's easier to fix if it does. The unsprung weight doesn't really become a factor though unless you're doing high speed offroad stuff which is why the Ford Raptor has IFS. Also, if you get full float axles you can actually remove the axle shafts without jacking up the vehicle

Maybe the Italian takeover wasn't such a bad idea.

the wrangler is the right vehicle to keep solid axles. The rest of the range, the only reason to keep them is to avoid developing more than one piece of tech.

as one should. a fool would think solid axles are THE only axle, they just happen to be the right choice (I think) for the wrangler and its intended uses

At first I was sad that it wasn't going to have a window that folded down, but then I realized I had never actually seen a newer jeep with the windshield down, and looking through the instructions, it appears to be a serious pain in the ass. Still is cool though.

My own blog. I just realized I could do that the other day. Kinja isn't the most user friendly platform I've ever encountered.

I see, I've taken to using tags to save and find my work. Just a heads up, kinja doesn't tell the op where its being shared to so its kinda scary for them. You might just say "saved to my blog" or something for a heads up
